Moderating at the 2025 NYSCDM Annual Conference (Divorce Mediation)

At the 2025 NYSCDM Annual Conference (April 24-26), Rachel J. Yoo, Co-Chair of the ADR Committee, had the honor of moderating the session “Navigating Mental Health and Family Dynamics During Mediation,” featuring Jihee Cho, Ph.D., and Talaiya Safdar, Esq.

The New York State Council on Divorce Mediation (NYSCDM), with its 42-year tradition of promoting excellence in divorce mediation, brought together mediators, attorneys, financial professionals, and mental health experts committed to supporting families through times of change.

This year’s theme, “Mediation Crucible: The Art of Process Excellence in Support of Families,” reflected the spirit of resilience and growth, inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi—the practice of mending broken pottery with gold. Similarly, mediators guided families in redefining relationships and responsibilities with strength and hope. The session explored how mediators can better navigate mental health issues and complex family dynamics, offering practical tools to enhance their practice and empower the families they serve.
